Cumberland School of Law had a class of 137 Juris Doctor graduates in 2023. Among those not pursuing a Master of Laws, an impressive 91.79% found employment within 10 months of graduation, indicating a robust employment rate.
Other positive trends include salary increases across various employment sectors, reflecting promising opportunities for financial growth and stability in a variety of career paths.
Breaking down the employment landscape further, many of Cumberland School of Law graduates found positions in law firms, comprising 71% of placements. Following closely behind, business and industry roles accounted for 10%, while government positions made up 7%. Public interest organizations and judicial clerkships represented 6% and 4%, respectively, of the graduates' employment choices. Education sector opportunities rounded out the distribution, comprising 2% of placements.
The class of 2023 demonstrated exceptional academic achievement, strong commitments to leveraging their legal expertise and fierce drive for improving the communities around them.
Rachel Martin, director of career development, commented on the employment rate, saying, “Our strong employment rate reflects the dedication and professionalism of our graduates, the strength of our academic programs, and the unwavering support of our alumni network. The class of 2023 secured employment in a wide variety of practice areas and settings, including civil firms, large corporations, universities, and criminal prosecutors’ and public defenders’ offices, and reported record salaries in both the private and public sectors. I am especially grateful to the leaders of Cumberland’s externship, clinical and advocacy programs, as well as the judicial clerkship faculty committee, for their enthusiastic support.”
